Handicap Tournament Right Around the Corner

Unfortunately, our defending handicap tournament champion is unable to repeat her title so who will it be??????
Looking forward to seeing Mary Mo back on the course very soon.
Margaret Lauer, our tournament chairperson, has been busy getting things ready for the 46 ladies who have signed up for this fun event.  Our playdays have been a very relaxed atmosphere and we have let a few things get by as far as rules and regulations on the golf course and turning in scorecards.  (The playday committee has addressed issues individually, however, we will be conducting the tournament by USGA rules and regulations.)  A couple of things we need to remember since this is a tournament:
  • First of all take a look at your quick reference guide that Margaret gave you to refresh yourself on rules you are not familiar with.  You can always come up and ask one of the pros who is on duty for an interpretation.
  • During the tournament when in doubt ask someone in your foursome what to do in case you are not sure.  You may play a second ball just in case and can ask one of our pro's or Margaret what the ruling would be.
  • Remember course etiquette.  This is a tournament but we are not playing as if our life depends on it.
  • We still need to be aware of 'Pace of Play', and play 'Ready Golf'.  Normally the person who had the best score on the previous hole gets the Honors to tee off on the next hole.  (Your group can decide on that or 'Ready Golf')
  • The bottom line is... we play this game to have fun.  Some people play tournaments very well and it is a nervous time for others.  As my buddy tells me, when in trouble primary concern is get out of that trouble even if it's just to get the ball back in the fairway.  Don't try to hit that miracle shot you have never tried and if you did it wasn't very successful.
  • Scorecards will need to be totalled correctly, signed and attested.  An incorrect signed scorecard can get you disqualified.  We cannot stress this enough.
  • No matter how you play, just remember, there will be a cold refreshing beverage waiting for you in the clubhouse.  You will have earned it.
ENOUGH OF THE PREACHING... see you next Wednesday and Thursday with your game face on!!!
