Minutes from December Awards Breakfast

Minutes from WOLGA Christmas Party and Awards

December 8, 2016

President Janis Turner called the meeting to order at 9:10 am following a delicious buffet breakfast at 8:30 am with 63 people attending.  As a result of excess funds in the treasury, members only had to pay $4 for breakfast.  Prayers were asked for Ellen Connor’s sister who had a brain aneurysm yesterday and for Irene Brage’s husband who was in surgery today.  Remembrances were made to Betty Dorsey and Betty Vaughn, prior WOLGA members who passed away this year.   Welcome to guests Linda Quick and Debbie Carter from Pink Posse, Damsel in Defense representatives Jody Saunders and Katy Morgan, Bobbi Wilson, Carol Wells, Mary Morgan and Evelyn Smith.  Bobbie Wilson gave the blessing.
Susan Gillespie and Beth Shepard entertained the group with their southern rendition of “I Owe My Soul to the Country Club Pro!”
Jody Saunders and Katy Morgan explained and demonstrated several of their “Damsel in Distress” products that are designed to help keep women safe.  A drawing was held for two of their products for our members.
A motion was made to accept the secretary’s and treasurer’s reports as written. Treasurer Sandra Lancaster will post the final treasurer’s report on the Blog.
In the 11 years we’ve supported the Pink Posse, WOLGA has donated a total of $6,249.  Pink Posse representative Linda Quick received $887 in donations from our members today.  She thanked WOLGA for their continuing support in helping over 200 families.  She encouraged members to participate in their annual Pink Posse Walk the third Saturday in September.  She announced they also have available discount coupons that benefit Special Olympics.
Banquet manager Michelle announced she has tickets available for $60 for the New Year’s Eve Party at White Oak.
Norma Martin invited everyone to visit the “drive-through Nativity scene” at the Cornerstone Methodist Church this Thursday through Sunday evenings from 6 pm to 9:30 pm.
President Turner thanked Nominating Chair Beth Shepard for preparing the Slate of Officers for 2017.  The following were presented and accepted by the membership:  President – Janis Turner, Vice-President – Susan Gillespie, Secretary – Ruth Routsong, Treasurer – Sandra Lancaster, Playday – Ann Henderson, Bunny Guy and Carolyn Schuett, Sunshine – Linda Brown, Communications – Lanelle Heminger, Blog – Susan Gillespie, Ringers and Stats – Carol McMeekin,  Tournament – Susan Clonts, and West Georgia – Ardy Durden.  President Turner said we’ve ended the year with 88 members and hope to see more next year.  She also suggested we add the position of Chairman of the Board for the outgoing President to act as an advisor to the WOLGA Board.
Homemade “Cork Angels were presented to all Committee Chairs from President Turner as a special thank you.  She then presented homemade ornaments to all officers also for their help this year.    Vice President Joan land presented a gift to President Turner as a thank you for all her efforts  this past year.
President Turner started the year-end awards by recognizing members with Milestone Awards: Diane Tschantz broke 100, Ann Henderson, Hesper Hall and Sandra Lancaster all broke 90 plus Sandra had her first Eagle, and Lisa Jones broke 80!!!

The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 am.  Beth Shepard then explained and demonstrated the new “ShotSki” she had made.  Three people are (hopefully) able to drink a shot at the same time.  Members who wanted to try the “ShotSki” donned their napkins around their necks to catch any spills!
