March 21- Best Nine

March 21st - Best Nine- Seminole

For you brave souls who want to play with a little cold breezy conditions, the format is
Best Nine.
We will pick the best front or back nine and subtract 1/2 your handicap.

Coming soon
March 28- Guest Day-non Canongate members will not have to pay green fees, only cart fee if you ride  (This is a great time to invite a golf buddy who might be interested in joining our wonderful club)
April 4th- Mini Masters
You will draw the name of a PGA golfer who is invited to play at August National.
We will award our two players with the low gross.  (The winner will wear the coveted green piece of clothing.)
Then after the Masters is over you will add your gross score with the 4 day score of the PGA player you drew.  We will give points to the two top combined score winners.  (Those winners will be announced the following Thursday after the Masters.)
(The two low gross winners will not be eligible to win both categories.  We will drop down to the next Wolga players for the combined winners)

This should make watching the Masters more fun knowing you are paired with one of the PGA golfers.

Thank you to the White Oak Golf Pros

Thanks Todd and Angela for playing with us today in our Beat the Pro format.  Todd, good luck at Braelinn.  Until we meet again....

Beat the Pros- March 14, 2013

First of all, look at Mother Nature at her best... Between #15 green and #16 at the sawgrass area we spotted this duck nesting... and low and behold she had these eggs to tend to.  The nest was beautiful with feathers softly surrounding the nest... Watch out for those little ducklings soon!!!

Here is Todd getting ready to tee of on #14.  Angela is in the foreground.
Here are the results of today's play day.
Todd-74
Angela-76
We had 10 ladies net score lower than both pros.   They are:
Mary Carlson
Louise Cox
Ardy Durden
Shirley Hasty
Charlotte Myczkowski
Beth Shepard
Janis Turner
Jan Alligood
Sandra Lancaster
Joan Land
(They received 3 pts.)
We had 2 ladies lower than Angela.  They are:
Susan Clonts
Margaret Lauer
(They received 2 pts.)

Reminder:  We will be putting in your WOLGA playday scores from week to week.

Next week:  Best Nine-It will be stroke play and you will choose the better nine (front or back) and then subtract 1/2 of your handicap.
Angela has said we will more than likely be able to play in threesomes.  Hooray!!

Stay tuned for information regarding our Mini Masters... I don't have a Green Jacket to award the low gross but it's the next best thing...

2013 Wolga Opening Day

Opening day was March 7, with a wonderful breakfast prepared by the White Oak restaurant staff.  We had 56 ladies in attendance and and 32 participating in our Scramble.    All Wolga members wore special red ribbons in memory of a wonderful member, Mary Alice Ballard, who left this world too soon.    The 2013-14 season will be dedicated  to her.
The handbooks are not completed yet but will be ready asap.  Next week is Todd Ormsby's last day at White Oak but will move to the Braelinn's Club.  With this in mind we have moved up our "Beat the Pro" to next Thursday, March 14.  He and Angela Jerman, our pro, will both be playing and you can place bets that you can beat the pros. If you beat the pro your bet is doubled and the total amount will apply to purchases in the Pro Shop.   More details next Thursday. We will be on Old Course again.
Finally, here are the results of our first play day;
First Place- Susan Clonts, Louise Cox, and Jane Buck with a 71
Second Place- Arleen Carleo, Barbara Nadreau, Bev Morris, and Beth Shepard with a 74

Opening Day

IT'S ALMOST HERE!!!

In memory of our beloved Mary Alice Ballard who left this world in February, we will wear these red ribbons with her initials on them.  We will have the ribbons and safety pins to fasten them on but as you can see these samples were fastened on with some of our 'BIRDIE' pins.  Bring your pin to March 7th meeting.

A FEW MORE ITEMS TO PONDER REGARDING PLAYDAY
  • Smitty and Don are not available to help with our bags this season.  There are going to be carts staged behind the pro shop as usual.  You may before or after pulling hole assignments, get a cart and load up your bags and set the cart back in the staging area.  Arrive for playday in plenty of time to get this taken care of.  We WILL be playing 4 somes this year so time will be an issue.
  • If you are running late for some unforseen reason call a buddy that is already at the clubhouse who may sign you in.  DO NOT CALL ONE OF THE OFFICERS,  PLAYDAY COMMITEE MEMBERS, or PRO SHOP AS THEY ARE PREPARING FOR PLAY DAY.
  • See you next Thursday, March 7 at 8:00am.  You may pay the $10.00 breakfast by check or cash

In Memory of Mary Alice

On Sunday, February 3rd, our White Oak Ladies lost one of our own.  Mary Alice Ballard was one of our true treasures.  She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone.  She will be missed on the course but shooting par in our hearts.
